To the casual observer, teaching may look easy. However, as teachers we face many professional challenges in a school system that demands so much. Diverse cultural norms, a steady increase in student population, and a new focus on Standards and Rubrics all contribute to making our job both difficult and demanding.

Historically, novice teachers have not been provided with guided support. The overall reality is that an effective induction process requires a continuous support system for new teachers. The Providence Teachers Union actively supports new teachers through a system of professional support and coaching.

The purpose of the PTU Virtual Teacher Mentor is to provide new teachers with information and techniques for incorporating sound instructional strategies and a basis for competent teaching.
