In partnership with Applebee’s restaurant in Warwick, students at George J. West wrote 850 thank you cards which were given out to veterans on Veterans Day.  

The project was coordinated by Suzy Quinn, Kindergarten teacher, and Kelly Spaziano, Assistant Principal.  Applebee’s manager, Patrick Harrington, stated “You can’t imagine how many people were touched by this simple gesture, great day.”  West has received several heartfelt thank you notes from the veterans.   Anthony Picchione, a Vietnam veteran, wrote “This is a gesture I will never forget.”  Students at West have learned even a small act of kindness goes a long way.  In appreciation for the students’ efforts, Applebee’s provided each student with a free kids meal ticket.
