PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- David Tedeschi, a guidance counselor at Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School, will attend a May 3 celebration at the White House honoring great educators from across the country.

“I am humbled by the honor to attend this White House event to share my passion for helping our students set high expectations, apply for and thrive in the college of their choice,” said Tedeschi. “Our students have so much potential, and I’m pleased every year to help them navigate the application and financial assistance process so they can meet their dreams of attending college.”

Tedeschi was nominated for this honor by the College Advising Corps (CAC) at Brown University, which works with local educators and guidance counselors to increase the number of low-income, first-generation college, and under-represented students who enter and complete college.

According to the College Advising Corps, Tedeschi goes above and beyond to support students and has been a key supporter and collaborator in the work of the corps. His tenure as a school counselor at Alvarez has brought consistent growth in the college-going culture at the school, the press release says. The class of 2015 had the highest number of college-bound students ever seen and among the highest financial aid completion rates in the Providence public schools, according to the release. Tedeschi has also spent more than 20 years as a youth basketball coach. He is also the director of the Rhode Island Magic.
