You can view the most current PLU Based Renewal Requirements here.

My certification is due to be renewed this year.  What is the process?

Grievance Process

What if I need to file a grievance?

You can get a Grievance form here and under Teacher Resources, and from your Building Delegate or the PTU Office. Once completed, bring it to the PTU Office for submission. It’ll be dated by PTU Staff and a photocopy can be provided, if needed.

*Please do not wait an extended amount of time to file a grievance*

Types of Grievances:

Individual ~ only impacts one member

Building ~ impacts the entire school

Collective (“Et al”) ~ one contract violation impacting multiple members

Can we do Collective Grievances?

Grievances can be processed collectively, IF  the same contractual violation impacts more than one individual.

What should I do if I’m called into a meeting with my admin?

You are allowed to have your Building Delegate present at any meeting with the administration. You can request your Union Representation prior to OR at any time during the meeting. If the meeting is already in session, it must pause until the Delegate or another Union Rep is present.

How many times do I have to document something before it’s grieved?

If there is a contract violation and attempts to resolve it have failed, ask your building delegate for a grievance form to complete.  Once this is submitted to the Union office, it will initiate the grievance process.

Do grievances even matter?

YES!  Above all, grievances are documentation.  We need documentation for violations.  We need documentation for matters when we enter negotiations.  Grievances matter, and they get the job done when all else fails.

Healthcare

Who can I contact  to discuss the various options for PTU’s $300 Supplemental Insurance benefit?

If you are interested in signing up for or adjusting your Supplemental Insurance, contact Jennifer Gervasio. She can provide a breakdown of benefits, tailored to your specific situation and needs. Her number is (401) 383-2333 and her email is bciri@cox.net

What are the different insurances available?

You can view a breakdown of our health insurance plans through our contract, located in Appendix C.

What is the difference between Open Enrollment in September versus June?

September’s Open Enrollment allows new members to select their plan. Current members can make changes such as Individual to Family Plan or vice versa, updating Spousal Information, or unenrolling for reimbursement. Changes in life such as Marriage, Birth, Adoption, etc. allow for adjustment outside of Open Enrollment.

June’s Open Enrollment allows members to register or adjust Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA).

Pay

Why are our paychecks held for weeks at the end of the year?

Per contract language, we are to be paid the second Friday after the first work day. Due to this contractual language, teachers do not work a full 10 day pay period, but are paid for 10 days.  So in order for the payroll department to distribute your salary evenly throughout the school year, there is a gap between the 20th and 21st paycheck due to the fact that you have already been paid for those day.

*Please note:  Snow days/Heat days/etc will impact the pay date as well*

What does this code mean on my paycheck?

Here is a list of codes, to determine deductions or additional pay on paycheck.

How can I confirm my salary/rate?

You can find the Salary Calculator on our home page. We highly recommend checking immediately after your first paycheck, to ensure wages are correct.

If you are a member whose step increases mid-year, you should confirm at the mid-year point.

I have attended PD &/or extra hours (before/after school, detention, tutoring, etc.) and have not been paid. Who do I contact?

Email payroll at payroll@ppsd.org , your building principal or the PD Facilitator, and John Welch.

How do I confirm my step, inquire about longevity stipend or professional advancement stipend?

Email Human Resources at humanresources@ppsd.org
